This safety standard sets forth requirements for the safe use, care and protection of abrasive wheels and the machines for which they are designed. Included in this standard are the requirements for wheel guards, flanges, chucks and proper storage, handling and mounting techniques. The rotating abrasive stone can cause severe abrasions and cuts. There’s also the potential or the abrasive stone to shatter and kickback from the spindle end. Other hazards such as flying fragments and sparks are present during grinding. When using a powered grinder: Always use eye or face protection. Turn off the power when not in use.
All products listed in this catalog must be used in accordance with the safety regulations set by OSHA, by the directive described by the American National Safety Institute B ("Safety Requirements for the Use, Care and Protection of Abrasive Wheels") and by the American Brush Manufacturers Association/5(6). FEPA safety codes. FEPA published documents which provide all the necessary information about how to use safely abrasive products. FEPA proposes three safety codes about bonded abrasives and precision superabrasives, coated abrasives, and superabrasives products for stone and construction.
The above safety tips are not all-inclusive. Be sure to check with ANSI B safety requirements before using your Allison Abrasives grinding or cut-off wheels. For Your Information. It is not necessary to use paper blotters with abrasive cutting wheels. They may be used between the wheel and the machine flanges for dry cutting applications. This concerns only flat or depressed centre bonded wheels for cutting-off with an angle grinder or a petrol saw. If you can’t find a manufacturing date on the wheel .
